CORPORATE SALES AND INVENTORY ACCOUNTING
Responsibilities:
- Managed staff of eight, including three professional and five clerical personnel.
Financial responsibility for all Corporate-owned inventory. This included reconciliation of physical inventories and working with the perpetual inventory system. This expanded to include software also. - Recording and maintaining records of all exports from the Corporate Division. These included finished equipment, feature kits, accessories, cables, software, some service parts, media, etc.
- Responsibility for Corporate fixed assets. Included all normal responsibilities found in an asset accounting function, such as record maintenance, physical inventory, tax reporting, etc.
- Accounting service for Corporate Field Engineering by handling accounting for the service parts depot at the Amsterdam airport. This included recording all exports, preparation of reports, and contact with relevant management regarding financial concerns.
- Accounting service for the Personal Computer division. This included processing all transactions, maintenance of the general ledger, and preparation of all financial statements including the consolidated results package.
- Accounting service for Corporate Purchasing regarding the handling of service parts and media destined for NCR Mexico Marketing. This was a new function. Also, acted as accounting interface for other appropriate functions.
- Responsibility for fixed asset cost administration of the rental pool in Istanbul, Turkey.
- Planning for a new finished equipment inventory system.
- Importation accounting for all Decision Mate V units manufactured at Augsburg, West Germany, not destined for domestic marketing, including proper disposition for those of a fixed asset nature.
- Reporting and reconciliation of Corporate Division intercompany profit generated by plants.
- Payment of all U.S. purchases of CPI and Centronics (OEM suppliers) inventory and accounting for same.
- Processing of invoices for all Dayton exports not associated with equipment, such as publications, promotional material, videotapes, etc.
Accomplishments:
- Rectification of numerous control weaknesses and operating deficiencies, including:
- Changing methodology for calculation of feature kit cost of sales from estimated to actual.
- Properly accounting for feature kits held at the Phoenix Distribution Center, which were previously expensed.
- Numerous accounts contained both cost and intercompany profit that was not eliminated. New accounts were established to handle this.
- Determined that some accounts were wrongly taking miscellaneous charges. Through meetings with the staff of Intercompany, Distributor and Royalty Accounting, these instances were reduced greatly. Also, provided for more equitable allocation of region expenses.
- Accounting for International Services (Corporate Purchasing) exports and inventory was being handled incorrectly. This was changed by an entirely new accounting and reporting structure.
- Questioned service parts purchases and exports by the Dayton staff of the International Marketing Groups.
- Questioned the lack of reserves for intercompany profit on Corporate inventory. Began booking in late in tenure.
- Major contribution in developing accounting interface for the Corporate Finished Inventory System (CFIS) , which is the largest system NCR has ever developed for internal use.
- Changed method by which costs associated with the NCR Turkey Rental Program were handled. This included a trip to Istanbul and an approved deviation from Corporate Finance Policy.
- Established International Services as a profit center, including new accounting procedures.
- Addressed situation of uncontrolled Decision Mate V imports by various administrative organizations, including re-creating accounting transactions.
- Established procedures for software accounting, including export recording.
- Re-creation of accounting transactions, retroactive accounting, and direction for future exports of NCR Telecommunication Division telecommunication equipment.
- Worked with domestic marketing MIS on changes made to the perpetual inventory system to accommodate commercialization.
- Analysis of annual physical inventory of feature kit intercompany profit to determine apparent anomaly, and correction of same.
- Instituted procedures to allow the Wichita plant to provide required export data to outside software vendors.
- Instituted and requested numerous changes to the export sales recording and reporting system to accommodate new products, and to provide more accurate accounting.
- Developed accounting procedures to allow International Services to handle exports to NCR Mexico Marketing.
- Changed NCR Schiphol (parts depot in Amsterdam) invoicing procedures to allow for accounting using WSPC (Worldwide Service Parts Center, Atlanta) prices.
- Establishment of intercompany-profit reporting procedures for Corporate Accounting.
